Studio Underd0g has released the Chan3ad, a limited edition of 100 pieces made in partnership with Dubai-based retailer Ahmed Seddiqi, available exclusively through Ahmed Seddiqi boutiques starting September 17, 2026. Built on the British brand’s 03SERIES platform, the watch takes its name and colour direction from the chan3ad, known in English as kingfish, a species the Fish Markets UAE website describes as “one of the most famous, highly prized, and culturally significant fish choices in the United Arab Emirates and the wider Gulf region.” The collaboration grew out of Studio Underd0g’s presence at Dubai Watch Week 2025, and it marks the brand’s first fully localised interpretation of the 03SERIES chronograph case.
The case itself carries over the proportions established on the earlier Salm0n edition: 38.5mm in diameter, 13.6mm thick (10.8mm without the crystal), and 44.5mm lug to lug, with a 20mm lug width. It’s machined from 316L stainless steel in a three-part construction, fitted with a sapphire crystal, a screwed display caseback, and a signed crown. Water resistance is rated to 50m. The single chronograph pusher, rectangular in profile, sits at 2 o’clock and controls all monopusher functions through a cam-actuated mechanism rather than a conventional two-pusher layout.
Dial Design as Marine Colour Translation
The Chan3ad’s dial construction is where the kingfish concept becomes tangible. It uses the same two-layer architecture as the Salm0n, but the colour logic is inverted and reworked. The upper layer carries a blue-grey dégradé finish meant to reference the kingfish’s scales, while the lower layer, visible through cutouts or transitions in the upper disc, shows a pale pink tone said to evoke the fish’s flesh, notably lighter than the darker pink used to represent salmon on the reference model. Eastern Arabic numerals appear on both the tachymeter scale and the subdials, a detail that ties the dial directly to its regional market. The layout itself hasn’t changed: an oversized 30-minute counter sits at 3 o’clock, running seconds at 9, with central hours, minutes, and chronograph seconds. SuperLumiNova is applied to the hour and minute hands, while the dedicated chronograph hands are tipped in yellow, a nod, according to the brand, to the lemon traditionally served alongside the fish.
Movement Architecture and Finishing
Power comes from a customised Sellita SW510-M, a hand-wound, cam-operated monopusher chronograph movement based on the Valjoux 7750 architecture. It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, offers a 63-hour power reserve, and is finished to Elaboré grade with a rated accuracy of -5/+5 seconds per day across 23 jewels. For this edition, Studio Underd0g has applied a bespoke ruthenium anthracite finish to the bridges along with Côte de Genève striping, visible through the screwed display caseback. The movement drives hours, minutes, small seconds, and the chronograph’s central seconds and 30-minute counter, matching the dial layout described above.
Strap Construction and Materials
The watch is fitted on a 20/16mm strap made from black salmon leather, sourced from Iceland and produced by The Strap Tailor. It uses quick-release spring bars and closes with a stainless steel pin buckle, and an additional 20/16mm Milanese mesh bracelet is included with each watch. The choice of salmon leather, an unconventional material even within a brand already known for playful references, extends the marine theme from the dial through to the wrist, giving the strap a textured, scaled surface that echoes the dial’s upper layer without directly copying it.
Every Chan3ad is assembled at Studio Underd0g’s D0ghouse facility in Great Britain, keeping final assembly in-house despite the Swiss-sourced movement and UAE-specific design brief. The reference number is 02KIB-EA, and the run is capped at 100 pieces, sold exclusively through Ahmed Seddiqi. For a brand that built its identity on food-inspired colourways and small-batch collaborations, the Chan3ad represents a shift toward a more geographically specific design brief, one where the dial, movement finish, and strap all answer to a single cultural reference point rather than a purely aesthetic theme.
